Reunification Training

In the event of an emergency, schools may need to evacuate students and staff to another safe location. This can be for a wide variety of reasons (power outage, gas leak, etc.). If something like this were to ever happen, a lot of organization and planning needs to happen in order to get students back to their parents so that the schools know that everyone is accounted for.

North Platte Public Schools and first responders trained for this during their Reunification Training at North Platte High School. Attendees were given safety information, including Standard Response Protocol in the morning. In the afternoon, three rounds of a reunification simulation took place. This put staff members through the process where they could experience a reunification process through the lens of a parent, a child, and as a Reunification Team. Everyone debriefed after each session, and had the opportunity for questions to be answered that they may thought of during the activity.

This was an engaging and important training that helps keep students, their families, and staff safe during a crisis situation.
