Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation has many scholarships designed for graduating high school seniors, current college students, returning college students, post-graduates, and teachers who reside in, or have gone to high school in our 12 county region (Arthur, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, & Thomas), or go to college in Nebraska.

Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship
The Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship is now open. Below are the essay prompts that you will be asked to write about. Please see a counselor if you need any assistance with this scholarship!
To be eligible to apply for the Susan T. Buffett Scholarship, you must:
Live in Nebraska and meet in-state residency requirements of the college you plan to attend
DACA, undocumented, or DACA eligible students are still eligible to apply
Graduate from a Nebraska high school or earn a Nebraska GEDEarn at least a 2.0 cumulative unweighted GPA in high school (or 77 on a 100 point scale)Be a first-time freshman when entering college
Students obtaining dual enrollment credits in high school are still eligible
Be in need of financial assistance in order to attend college
You do not need to be Pell Grant eligible to qualify
You must have a Student Aid Index (SAI) below 10,000 in order to apply

Tasha Keiter Scholarship
Tasha Marie Keiter was born on April 28th, 1993, in Kearney, Nebraska to David and Diane (Dunse) Keiter. She received her education at Kearney High School, where she was active in the marching band and the golf team all four years. Tasha graduated from high school in May of 2011 and was currently attending Hastings College, where she played on the women’s golf team. She enjoyed the game of golf and the people who played it and was a great competitor. Tasha was known for her fun-loving spirit, beautiful smile and long gorgeous curly red hair. Her friends and family recognize her ability to lift up everyone she met with her smile and genuine love to include everyone in her excitement. She had compassion for all animals, especially her dog “Buddy.” Tasha lived life to the fullest each day.
Tasha Keiter, 19, died Wednesday, July 4th, 2012, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
About the Scholarship
PGA REACH Nebraska administers the Tasha Keiter Scholarship for young women who enjoy the game of golf. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist female students in furthering their education. One female high school graduate and one female postgraduate will be the Scholarship recipients in the amount of $1,000 each.
Any female graduating high school senior or previous graduate residing within the boundaries of the Nebraska PGA Section is eligible to apply. The Nebraska Section consists of the entire State of Nebraska, part of the State of Iowa west of the 95th-degree longitude, which is approximately Highway 71 and a small portion of South Dakota, including Dakota Dunes and Yankton.
Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf, the potential for future contributions to the game, leadership skills/community involvement, then their academic/professional ability and financial need.

Lincoln County Family & Consumer Science Scholarship Application
The Coyner and Donna Smith Diversity Scholarship application, Administered by Lutheran Family Services, will start taking applications on December 1, 2024, through February 28, 2025. Please encourage your students to begin their application. We do not require FAFSA information with the initial application. We’ll ask for these documents prior to the second round of applicant review.
The Mission of the Smith Diversity Scholarship is to provide a post-secondary education to Nebraska’s graduating seniors from underrecognized backgrounds, facing financial barriers, who display academic aptitude, leadership, determination toward goals, and a spirit for making an impact. In 2025, we will award four renewable scholarships of up to 15,000 per year to four-year institutions; and two renewable scholarships of up to $12,500 per year to two-year trade school institutions. Students can attend any accredited institution.
Due to the flexibility of these funds - which are intended to help students beyond the traditional tuition, books and housing - this is one of the most unique scholarships available in the country.

Application is open December 1, 2024 - February 28, 2025.
No minimum GPA, SAT or ACT requirements.
Three letters of references requested (minimum of two letters of reference required. Requests for references can be made through the submission portal).
Students will need to upload the following in the application:

Applicants must be an ethnic minority with a household income under $75,000.
Applicants must be a 2025 graduating senior attending a Nebraska public, private, charter school or home school association, or have obtained their GED.
Applicants must plan to begin their freshmen year of post-secondary education the following academic year.
Applicants do not need to be a U.S. citizen.

Reminder: Dual Credit representatives will be in the Counselor's Office Conference Room every Monday for the rest of the year from 8:00am - Noon. Be sure to see them if you have any questions about your Dual Credit classes. In addition to dual credit help, MPCC representatives can help you with general college advising such as seeing if your dual credit college credits transfer to in-state and out of state colleges, seeing if a college offers a program you are interested in, and more.

The UNMC College of Allied Health Professions and College of Nursing are teaming up to present UNMC Backstage Pass - a behind the scenes look at a multitude of health professions careers!
This is a free, hands-on event that includes lunch and is intended for individuals who want to explore health care professions more closely, specifically allied health and nursing programs.
Join us in Kearney on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 from 10am – 1pm.
Each attendee should register individually, including teachers and counselors. This will help us plan accordingly for lunch and event space. Directions, parking information and other logistical details will be sent the week of the event.
This is a great opportunity for teachers, advisors and/or counselors to bring your students to engage in career awareness activities. While your students are exploring the different hands-on booths, you can join them or connect with members of our staff to ask any questions you may have about preparing your students for admissions to a health professions education program.
